In order to protect yourself and your claim, you should take the following steps if you are in a car accident:

 

1. Stop your car in a safe place. Seek medical attention immediately if necessary.

2. Move your car, if needed, to protect against further damage and to keep from blocking traffic. DO NOT LEAVE THE SCENE OF THE ACCIDENT.

3. Call the police, especially when there are injuries or in hit and run accidents.

4. Get the other driver’s name address, phone number, license plate number, driver’s license number and insurance information.

5. Get the names of any witnesses as well as their address and phone number.
6. If there is a police officer present, ask for an interpreter if you are not fluent in English.
